Michael and Bridget’s Nelson Wedding
Brushing off the dust from my computer’s in-built dictionary I looked up the word Fate - “The Development of events outside of a person’s control”. This is the story of Fate and how two people who grew up worlds apart unexpectantly succeeded in finding themselves together, not only in the same country nor town as one another but in a moment they found themselves both attending a Nelson Young Professionals (NYP) function where their path’s crossed permanently. This is Bridget and Michael’s story, as told by yours truly!

Michael and his family moved to New Zealand from Zimbabwe many moons ago and Bridget relocated to Nelson following a dream job offer she just couldn’t refuse from where she grew up on the family farm. Growing up worlds apart meant that Michael and Bridget’s family and friends were scattered all over the world meaning planning essentially a destination wedding in Nelson where the couple now resides that little bit more complicated. And to make matters worse a global Pandemic meant that traveling worldwide was somewhat strained.
Putting logistics aside the couple locked in a date and chose to celebrate their Nelson wedding at Appleby House with all who could make it with a gorgeous outdoor ceremony held in the gardens of Appleby House followed by a reception in the newly built barn. Family and friends are paramount to Bridget and Michael so it was truly special and a real tear-jerker that their loved ones who couldn’t attend sent personal video messages which were played at their Reception. This was such a personal touch and had almost everyone in the barn at Appleby House belly laughing or wiping away tears.
