The BoatHouse
The Boathouse is an amazing wedding venue situated along Nelson’s iconic Tahunanui Drive with views looking out over the Tasman Bay and Boulder Bank. The Boathouse has a medium-sized wooden desk to the rear of the building offering great views out over the water and boasts a large indoor reception space that would easily hold 100 + guests seated. This venue is one of our favourites due to the location and clean interior.
Wedding Ceremony Options:
The Boathouse has a medium-sized wooden deck to the rear of the building, providing couples with privacy and a beautiful backdrop to their ceremonies. One thing we should note is that we have found due to the size of the deck that many of our couples have chosen to use this venue more for reception and have their ceremony at an alternative venue when they have a large number of guests but it is a perfect spot if you have a small to medium-sized guest list. As the deck is exposed to the elements we would recommend choosing a late afternoon time for your ceremony as the lighting would be very harsh with no shade options.
Wedding Reception Options:
As for wedding reception options, The Boathouse offers a great option for your reception, it boasts a large hall-like area with toilet facilities and a kitchen for caterers off of the main room, the hall space itself has white-washed walls, and wooden floors and provides a subtle historic charm. The venue has its own bar and can easily host 100 + guests seated quite comfortably. We have seen couples hide the whitewashed brick wall with cloth and also kept this wall exposed behind the bridal table and both options look great.
Location:
The Boathouse is located in approx 4-5 minutes from Central Nelson in Tahunanui on the very iconic Tahunanui Drive with views looking out over the boulder bank and Tasman Bay. The venue has limited parking available so we would highly recommend organizing a bus to drop guests off to avoid parking congestion.
